Fifteen years ago - I was tragically widowed with no warning. There were no preparations, plans, last wishes or Final expense insurance pre-arranged. I was only 44, but was suddenly thrust into attempting to figure how to pay for an "inexpensive" cremation. He wanted to go out like a Viking, so I did the best I could.

My friends, family and extended family help set up a "Go Fund Me", before Go Fund Me was a thing. The state of Massachusetts paid $188 and Social Security paid their one time Widow allowance that I signed over to the Funeral home directly. There was no service, but a pot luck Dumb Dinner and birthday cake to celebrate my husband. We shared pictures and stories, tears and laughter. He passed 4 days before his 46th birthday and we received his ashes in time for his Birthday/Celebration of Life "party". My closest and such wonderful friends bought the urn that he rests in.

The hardships during that time and that came afterward, I wouldn't wish on an enemy. Through the years, I witnessed even more friends and family that didn't plan properly, and had to rely on what could be thrown together at the last minute. After all that - then COVID hit and the losses worldwide were devastating. People across our nation alone discovered they either didn't have enough coverage, their coverage had lapsed, or no plans were made previously at all.

I witnessed much of this first hand - a dilemma that I couldn't stand by and watch any longer. I knew I had to do something. I had no idea what or how - but I was going to figure it out. Fourteen years after becoming a widow - Honored Wishes was created in 2024.
